If you are a blogger chances are that you use WordPress as your blogging engine. You probably also know that there was just a pretty big update to the WordPress program. One of the big updates is the integration of HTML5. This is kind of geeky stuff but the bottom line is that HTML5 is the newest language of the Internet and it will bring with it things like built in media integration, offline data storage for web apps, and cool things like drag & drop. I don’t know that I will be using all of the features of HTML5 but I still want to be prepared for the future. That’s why I am working on an update of my blog that will change both the look and also some of the functionality.
I have been using the Genesis Framework for my blog for some time now and it is pretty awesome. Genesis is the product of StudioPress and as they describe it, WordPress is the engine, Genesis is the body and frame, and themes are like the pretty paint job on top of it all. And boy do they have some pretty paint jobs. I have been using one of their themes called Platinum for a while but it has been retired so I am looking at their Backcountry theme as a possible replacement.
I’ll probably update over the weekend when my site traffic is typically slower and hopefully it will be up and running by next week. That’s one of the great things about using a framework like Genesis is that it makes it really easy to change the look of your site without having to change everything from the ground up. StudioPress just recently updated the Genesis framework to be fully compatible with HTML5, which means that I will be ready for whatever the web of the future has to offer. At least that’s the plan. Be sure to check back next week to see the new look and let me know what you think.
