Just a few days ago I wrote about the Nature Visions Photography Expo, which begins on Nov. 9th, but that’s not the only photo show around. For those of you with a more cosmopolitan side, check out the FotoWeekDC event, which also begins on the 9th and runs through the 18th of the month. Unlike the Nature Visions Expo, which is housed in one location, the FotoWeekDC event is spread all over the Washington DC area and is comprised of a host of different events, gallery showings, portfolio reviews, educational opportunities, and parties. I counted up all of the Festival events and came up with 114. That’s a whole lot of stuff for the $5 you would have to spend on an event pass. Not a bad deal.
FotoWeekCentral, which is kind of like the hub of activity for the festival is at the Warner in downtown DC (1299 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW) and you can catch a bunch of different exhibitions there. There will also be quite a few lectures taking place on the 10th and 11th as well as the Benefit Launch Party on the night of the 10th. Other notable locations downtown include Corcoran Gallery of Art and College of Art + Design, The National Gallery of Art, National Geographic, Sixth & I Historic Synagogue, The Phillips Collection, and The Goethe Institute.
The action isn’t limited to just DC as the festival flows into some Maryland and Virginia locations as well. There really is something here for everyone and you will need to head to the event website to find all the details and plan your visit. You can also catch all the action by following @fotoweekdc on Twitter or on their Facebook page. It really is a great time to be a photo enthusiast in the DC area.
