Topaz Labs, makers of some of my favorite plug-ins like Topaz Adjust 4 and Detail 2, have just released their newest member of the Topaz Suite called Topaz Black and White Effects. This is a black and white conversion plug-in but it’s also more than that. It is jam packed with 150 presets that range from simple black and white to the very artistic. It also has a lot of great features like a selective adjustment brush, adaptive exposures, historic processing collections like cyanotypes, albumens, opalotypes, and more.
You can choose one of the great presets to get you started and then customize it using the conversion, creative effects, local adjustments, and finishing touches to create a one of a kind image. I downloaded it yesterday and began playing with it and I am still having fun finding new creative options to use on my images. But here’s the best part, if you buy it before September 18, you can get $30 off the regular retail price. That means you will be paying only $29.99. This plug-in isn’t going to replace my Silver Efex Pro but it does bring a lot of things to the table that SEP doesn’t.
