I posted the dates for this a couple of weeks ago but it’s official as of today. Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photowalk will be held on the weekend of October 1st and 2nd. That’s right, now there are two days to choose from so that more people have a chance to participate. The date was also moved to the fall at the request of thousands of sweat-soaked photowalkers. I think it got close to 100 last year on my walk and we had an early start. I think that no matter what hemisphere you live in, October should be pretty nice.
Sites are already being approved as walk leaders from last year were given a chance to apply again ahead of time. That doesn’t mean there aren’t ample opportunities to lead a walk if that’s your thing. You will need to fill out a Leader Registration form and have some qualifications to lead. Being a leader doesn’t mean just picking a city and showing up, there is a bit of work involved and some commitment too. So if you know a great location and think you fit the bill, click the Lead a Walk link.
If, on the other hand, you are more into just showing up and having fun, you should click on the Find a Walk link. You can find a walk by using the map or just type a city into the search box and pressing enter. The walks are limited to 50 participants so if you see a place you really like, don’t take too long to sign up. On the other hand, with two days of walking, several locations will have multiple walks planned so you might lots to choose from.
This year, like in the past, there will be books given to all the leaders as well as one winner from each photowalk as selected by the walk leader. Each of the winners from the individual photowalks will also have their images entered into the big contest where Scott will pick his grand prize winner (better him than me).
So don’t wait until the last minute, check out Scott’s blog today for a Q&A that will answer a lot of questions and then jump on over to the official Worldwide Photowalk website and get yourself registered as a leader or walker. You know you want to .
If you are looking for my photowalk, I just got it registered and you can check it out directly by clicking this LINK. I am going to do an evening photowalk featuring the monuments and memorials of the National Mall in DC. I have never done this location before and it should offer some great photographic opportunities. I am also planning it in the late afternoon so that we can get some good light. I look forward to seeing all of my repeat photowalkers and meeting a lot of new ones as well. But hurry, my photowalks always fill up quickly.
