Creating My Gallery Print

The other day I posted some pics on my Facebook page of a gallery poster that I had printed at Mpix. I was really just showing off what a great job they do of printing and shipping (I just love how they flat-ship everything) but I got a lot of questions about the print itself. Quite a few of you asked if I would show how I actually created the gallery print so today I am posting a real quick tutorial to show you just that. It’s almost as easy as getting it printed at Mpix.

Just in case you were wondering, I have no affilliation with Mpix, I just think they do a fantastic job and highly recommend them.

A couple of things about the video. First, I apologize for the audio quality. I didn’t have my normal microphone setup so there’s a little extra breathing/wind noise. Second, to really get the best view be sure to watch it in 720p HD mode and expand it to full screen. It looks sweet!

Thanks Jeff, I know I was one of your fans who asked, probably not the only one though.

I liked your tutorial on creating gallery style prints. I actually did a tutorial on creating the same type of print but with step by step photo guides last month on my blog. By the way, I’m also a big fan of photowalks and I’m looking forward to this years.

Great tutorial!!! Quick question though and it may sound silly but I wasn’t quite sure when you chose the size in CS5 are you picking the size of the picture or the overall size with your gallery mat? Thanks!

Generally I am going to pick the output size to match the frame size I am looking to fill. With the gallery-style images, there is no need for a mat since the image already looks like it it matted. I usually try to go with commercially available frmaes to keep the costs down so a 16×20 will have an actual image area of around 11×14. I have quite a few of these haning around my house.

Thanks! Great tutorial! I don’t have CS5 yet and this actually worked in my CS3.
