Shooting the Skins for Hail! Magazine

My New Year started off with a bang as I got to shoot my beloved Redskins from the sidelines yesterday. I got hooked up with the guys from Hail! Magazine and they arranged for me to shoot yesterday’s game between the Redskins and the Giants. Even though the Skins lost, it was a fantastic experience for me. I have shot football games before but this was my first pro game and I have to tell you, this stuff ain’t easy. For anyone that thinks that the only thing you need is a long lens and access, let me tell you that it is a tough gig. I managed to get some decent shots but Peter, Mel, Murf, and Eric do it week-in and week-out for Hail! Magazine and pretty much nail it all the time.

Here’s a few of the shots that I managed to get in focus. But if you really want to see the good stuff, head over to the Hail! Magazine site, check out the back issues, and sign up for the free subscription (it’s an electronic publication so there’s no waiting for the mailman to start enjoying all the burgundy and gold goodness)

I want to thank Brian Murphy, Eric Espada, Mel Arroyo, and Peter Lockley for giving me the opportunity and making me feel so at home in their world. It was an experience I won’t soon forget.

Jeff – Great shots for a “pro football beginner”…and I’m jealous of your opportunity . Let’s hope the ‘Skins have a better 2011 season, with fewer injuries, less controversy, and more wins…and that you get more shooting opportunities. With luck, we’ll see you at the Kelby PhotoWalk 2011.

Jeff, great shots as expected. I think you really nailed some yourself. I’m sure it was a blast.

JR – Nice work if you can get it and it looks like you got it !! Get yourself a 600 lens and get back out there.
