When making gallery prints for my images in Photoshop I used to always use the Canvas Size dialog to add the extra space around the edges of my image.  The problem was that I would have to do it twice to get the right amount of space I wanted for that Gallery Print look (more space on the bottom than the top and sides).  Now I use a different method that is also quicker and easier.  Check out today’s quick video tip to see how I do it.  So simple and yet so satisfying.

Interesting tip, but it doesn’t seem very exact. Assuming you want to add exactly one inch to the top and each side and exactly 1.5 inches to the bottom, I don’t see a way to do it with the crop tool very efficiently. Even using the rulers becomes a bit cumbersome when trying to be exact.

I think it would be much faster and more accurate to simply create an action that contains the steps in your “old” way of doing things. You could create one for each final image size assuming you have cases where the 1 and 1.5 inch borders aren’t ideal.

    Maybe I’m missing something?
