Twitter Book Giveaway! Just in Time For The Holidays

D5000 book cover T1i book cover

Hey everyone, I just put up my Christmas tree and so I’m really getting into the spirit of the season.  So that means I’m going to be gifting some of my books for a few of you out there that follow me on Twitter.  Actually, I’m going to give away 2 copies of my last two books (that’s four winners altogether), Snapshots to Great Shots: Nikon D5000 and Snapshots to Great Shots: Canon Rebel T1i.  They will make an excellent addition to your coffee table, either on top or under that short leg.  I am going to give away one copy per winner and to enter you need to do the following:

First, go to Twitter and if you don’t already have an account there then you need to get with the program.  Okay, I’m just kidding, but you will need an account so go ahead and set one up. It’s free. Then follow me – Photowalkpro (Jeff Revell). Go to http://www.twitter.com/photowalkpro and click on the Follow button that appears under my profile.  If you are already following me in Twitter, you can skip that last part and head straight to the next section.

Now that you have done that, there’s only one things left for you to do, well two things.  First is to decide which book you want to try and win, the Nikon D5000 or the Canon Rebel T1i.  After you decide, and yes, you can enter for both but some might see you as sacrilegious, you need to Tweet one of the following phrases into Twitter.

To win a copy of Snapshots to Great Shots: Nikon D5000 enter:

Win a copy of the book, Snapshots to Great Shots: Nikon D5000 from @Photowalkpro. Details here http://bit.ly/6aX6BT Please RT.

To win a copy of Snapshots to Great Shots: Canon Rebel T1i enter:

Win a copy of the book, Snapshots to Great Shots: Canon Rebel T1i from @Photowalkpro. Details here http://bit.ly/6aX6BT Please RT.

You might find it easier to just copy the text above and paste it into Twitter rather than re-typing it.

I only have 2 rules for this contest.  The first is that you must be a resident of the United States to win (sorry to all my non-US resident readers). Rule number 2 is that you only enter once per book.  Adding more entries won’t help your chances of winning but it will put me in a bah-humbug sort of mood.

That’s all there is to it.  The contest will end this Saturday at 11:59:59 PM, Eastern Time. At that time, all of the RT messages will be added up and I will use a random number generator to pick the winners.

Ready, set, good luck, go…

  1. Jeff, follow your blog everyday, thanks! I have a D3 and just bought the D3s and to my surprise CS4 does not support the raw files (they do with my D3). Have you heard anything about this? I’m sure Adobe will have an upgrade soon but have not gotten any response from them. I had to download NX2 to retrieve my first photos with the D3s!

    • Ken, it’s rare that Adobe will release a Camera Raw update for the release of just one camera model. Not only does it take time for them to reverse engineer the raw files but they are also working on other camera models as well. They should probably have something soon but more irritating is why the camera manufacturers change their RAW file formats with the release of each new camera model. I mean, the D3s is really just the D3 with video so why the need to change the NEF format? Some things will always be a mystery to me.

      • Ken, I wanted to give you a quick update to my last comment. Adobe has just released their latest updates to both Camera Raw and Lightroom, which now enable processing of some of the latest raw files including the Nikon D3s. You can find the updates at the Adobe Download center.

I retweeted both, but changed the second one to read Canon T1

  3. Jeff, I read you blog daily, thanks for all of the great information. I am new to Twitter and Tweeting so I was wondering how you can tell if I tweated??? I did your retweet for the Canon book, My friend has let me read her’s and it is full of great information.

I also am having an issue with my Canon 50d and uploading raw files, my PSCS3 does not read them. I have tried to up date my camera with updates and no luck. I had to purchase the program ACDSEE in order to retrieve my raw files!!!! It’s an all right program but very very slow for raw images. Any suggestions?

    Thanks Tracy in AR

    • Tracy,
I think that the problem isn’t with the camera, it’s with the version of Adobe Camera Raw that you are using. You are lucky because one of the last updates for ACR that works with CS3 includes the Canon 50D. You need to download version 4.6 and install it and then you should be able to see your raw files in Photoshop CS3. You can also download the latest version of the DNG converter and use that to convert your raw files into the DNG format, which will give you all the same options as the raw file.

Hi Jeff and thanks for the effort you put into helping others. Why is your give away only for the US? I can understand that Wacom USA (for example) only wants to give things to potential US customers and Nikon USA the same but you are the author of your books so why do you deny 90% of the world from winning?

    • Hi Ian,
There are several reasons, one being that different countries have different rules about contests and I don’t want to violate any international laws, even for something as insignificant as a book giveaway. Second is that I am picking up the tab for all the shipping and I don’t want to sound like a cheapskate but depending on where the book is being shipped, it can get pretty expensive. I think you will find that these are part of the reasons that some of the companies you named restrict their contests to the US as well.

      Jeff
