We’re just one day away from the Help Portrait project and I am really excited to be involved.  We had a bunch of people signed up in the DC area so we are going to be hosting several events in the DC area.  I am going to be joining photographers here in the Northern Va. area to host a shoot at the Sudley Manor House in Manassas.  I have been busy this week trying to get organized with all of the gear I will be taking to the site, to include my lights, background, computer, and printers and supplies.  We want to be able to deliver prints right on the spot so I have borrowed a couple of Canon Selphy printers from a buddy.  The Selphy printers are really nice and the prints are really look great and are ready to hand out in about a minute.

I think this is going to be such a great experience and I am so pleased that I can do something for my community and help brighten someone else’s holiday by doing something that I love.  Be sure to check out all the chatter on Twitter on Saturday by following #helpportrait.  I’ll be sure to give you a follow-up next week. Until then, have a great weekend and try to give back a little to someone in need.

We had ours in Lima, Ohio today at the Food Pantry. It was fantastic! We also handed out prints immediately. We used an Epson Artisan 800 and an Epson 1400. They fell behind a little during the busiest time, but not so much as to cause an issue. We had 4 hair and make-up volunteers and I think they were more popular than those of us making portraits.

All in all, it might have been the best experience I’ve had as a photographer. I hope this becomes an annual tradition!

  2. Hope you had as good a time at your location as I did at the Lisner Home in D.C. – it felt great to do something for people who really wanted it – the residents and the staff were so appreciative. Hope that this becomes an annual tradition!
