And Now For the Rest of The News…

♦ – Finally today I thought I would share a video with you that I found yesterday.  I came across it while my wife and I were looking for NGO info in Guatemala.  What we were looking for specifically was a documentary called Recycled Life about the children who live around the largest landfill in Central America.  What I found though was a story that was just too inspirational not to share.  It’s about a former Reuters photographer, Nancy McGirr, who was working assignments in Guatemala near the end of their civil war.  She decided that she had had enough of taking war photos and decided to do something else with her knowledge of photography.  This is her story…

I was incredibly touched by the work that Nancy has done with the children of the landfill.  Although she only planned on staying there for a limited time, she is now in her 18th year of helping the kids get out of the dump and into educational programs that will hopefully change their lives forever.  If you would like to read more about Nancy’s organization, Fotokids, please check out their website.  They are a charitable organization and they not only take donations of cash, but also photography gear of all shapes and sizes.  She has a list of things on the website that they are in need of so if you needed a reason to clean out all that old photo and darkroom gear that has been gathering dust in your basement, here’s your chance.
