I’m pretty excited about this coming Saturday and not just because I will be leading one of the DC Photowalks. I will have not one, not two, but three new products that I will be evaluating/researching. The first item is the new Canon T1i that I have already begun to put through its paces and really like what I have seen. I’m not using it for a review but for research for my 3rd book in my “Snapshots to Great Shots” series. Don’t be surprised to find some photowalk images in the book.
The next item is something that I got ahold of just a couple of days ago. If you recall back a couple of weeks, you might remember me asking for opinions on the Eye-Fi wireless memory cards. The biggest complaint I heard from folks wasn’t with the performance of the card or the wireless transfer, but the inability for the card to transfer RAW files. Well guess what, Eye-Fi just recently released a new card called the Eye-Fi Pro that handles wireless transfer of RAW images. Sweet! I will be using it in the Canon T1i to shoot RAW, JPEG, and even movies and then test the wireless download when I return home. If all works well, I won’t have to do anything but walk in to range of my wireless router. You can defintely look for a review of my experiences with this newest technology from Eye-Fi.
The third piece of gear that will be accompanying me on Saturday will be the Trek-Tech TrekPod monopod/tripod. This is a really cool design that is part walking stick, part monopod, and part tripod. The thing that I am really interested in checking out is the quick-release ballhead at the top of the pod, which features a rare Earth magnet to hold the small mounting plate that is screwed into the tripod socket of the camera. Once connected, a small arm wraps around the mount to secure everything in place. At the bottom of the pod are three legs that quickly expand out to form a tripod base that is reportedly sturdy enough to hold a professional DSLR. Check out this link to see a video of the TrekPod in action.
If you are joining me on Saturday, be sure to hit me up to check out this new gear. Otherwise, stay tuned for my in-depth reviews in the days following the photowalk.
