RAW Update for your Mac -
I just ran the Apple software update on my Mac and noticed that there is a new Digital Camera RAW compatibility update available for download. This update adds support for several Canon cameras, the Nikon D5000, and the Olympus E30. After updating you will be able to use RAW images from these cameras in your Aperture 2, and iPhoto 08/09 applications. Also included in yesterday’s update is the stable release of the Safari 4.0 web browser.
Canon 50D: From Snapshots to Great Shots Review -
I just saw a new review of my Canon 50D book over at photographer Jones Oliver’s Camera 47 website. You can check it out here.
Caveat Emptor -
I received an email from an unknown person about a new electronics site with great deals on all sorts of equipment including digital cameras. The poorly worded email made me suspicious right off the bat but I couldn’t fight the curiosity so I followed the link to check out this online store. What I found were deals that weren’t just low, but way too low to be real. I’m not going to tell you where to find this site but I do want to offer a word of caution to you bargain hunters out there. If you see a site that offers a new Canon 50D for $200, just run in the opposite direction. I’m not sure what the deal is but there is no way that any reputable site can offer new cameras for the rediculously low prices I found on this site. Chances are that if you were brave enough to order from them, you not only would be out your money, but could also open yourself to future fraud by offering up your credit card info. If you are in the market for a new camera, do your homework and remember, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
Hey, Where’s my photowalk? -
One of the folks who is registered for my DC photowalk dropped me a line to let me know that my location is no longer in the City List. Fear not, I haven’t cancelled my location and my photowalk page is still up and running, it just doesn’t appear in the city list anymore. I thought perhaps it’s because it is full to capacity and it kept people from having to look at sites that are already full but I found my buddy Rich Harrington’s location listed for Vienna, Virginia and his is full as well so there goes that theory. I did look on the map view and my city location still appears there so it seems that the missing entry on the city list is just a glich. If you are looking for my page, you can find it here, although I haven’t updated it with any new info as of yet.
Speaking of the Worldwide Photowalk -
Did you happen to catch my friend Laurie Excell’s guest blog the other day? Laurie had some great advice for the new photowalker including what to bring, what to wear, and what to shoot. Even if this isn’t your first photowalk, you will want to give this a read. Well done Laurie!

Same thing happened with my city page here in Prescott. The page still exists, and we’re full up already as well.
Gotta say, there’s a lot of “too good to be true” prices out there on cameras. My favorite sites all seem to be related to each other. Low price, you order and then get an e-mail telling you to call and confirm. When you call they tell you there’s no battery, etc, etc. They want $200 for the battery, want to sell you an over priced lens, and all the rest. If all you want is the body they’ll tell you it’s back ordered and you’ll never get it.
My bottom line? I’m always at B&H’s site, I know who they are, and I know they do good business.
