Good News on the Doorstep

_dsc0161-sm

I had some really great news sitting on my front porch when I got home from work last Thursday.  It seems that the UPS guy had left a package there for me in a plain brown box.  I quickly brought it in and opened it to find a stack of shrink-wrapped books shipped directly from the printer.  Yup, that’s right, my book, Canon 50D: From Snapshots to Great Shots, is officially printed and on its way to the PeachPit warehouses for sorting and distributing to retailers.  This means that if you have ordered a copy that you will hopefully be receiving it in a couple of weeks.

This was my first chance to see a printed version of the book and I have to say that it looks SWEET!  I’m really pleased with the way it turned out.  It’s a pretty big departure from the normal camera-specific books out there and I’m hopeful that it will become a valuable resource for Canon 50D owners.  If you get the chance, check out the sample chapter available at the PeachPit website.  You can pre-roder your copy from Barnes & Noble, Borders, or your favorite bookseller.

Let me tell you folks, this is a really good book. If you were to eliminate everything related to the Canon 50D specifically, it would be a great book about the basics of photography. Nice pictures that are good, clear examples and easy to follow text. Even if you don’t have a 50D many of the features would relate to other Canon cameras. But you should always read your owners manual first and THEN BUY this book. You won’t be disappointed.

Congrats on the book! I’m sure you’ll fly right up the charts. Good tech information on our cameras isn’t the easiest to come by, but after following you blog for a long time I’m sure you’ve filtered the unnecessary and included what folks really need.

Look forward to following how well it does!

Congrats! I coincidentally just sent a request into PeachPit Press to do reviews on some of their photography books and I noticed this book on the page, I had no idea it was yours. Very cool.

    Hi Jeff,

I received a copy of your book today from Peachpit. I’ll be reviewing it. I haven’t started reading it, but the layout and photography are awesome. Those two aspects of the book alone makes it cutting edge. I guessing this is your first book. So congrats.

So does this mean that Photoshop User TV will have to change the name of the Rick Sammon segment which uses your same tag line, from Snapshots to Great Shots, in future episodes?
