Having my kids at home with me for the break and nothing to do for the day, I thought it would be a great time to head out to the National Zoo.  It would also give me a good chance to collect some more images for the D90 book.  It was a simple enough plan but it turned out to be an exercise in patience.  See, I didn’t realize that everyone else in a 50 mile radius had the exact same plan.  Take note, never visit the zoo on the first nice day of Spring Break.  It was like opening day at Disney World.  It took 2 hours to get there for what is normally a 1 hour drive.  Then, once we were there, the crowds were so thick that it made shooting pretty difficult.  Every time an animal would come out in the yard, a crowd would gather.  I’m not saying the day was a total bust because I spent it with my kids and that’s always a good day.  It was however a difficult day to get any good shots.  And if you are wondering why my blog is so late in posting today, it’s because I was so worn out that I fell asleep on the couch last night.  Must have had something to do with sitting in traffic for 3 hours on the way home.

You should have been at the Cherry Blossom festival last Saturday. Crowds were so bad we had to leave. A couple of pictures are on my blog.

I visited the National Zoo years ago and that’s exactly how I remember it! I must have been there during Spring Break too. I love the tight crop on the parading peacock and the pretty little falcon with her tasty morsel.

So, did you come home with the peacock or not?

  5. Isn’t this just the kind of day to go outside of the box and do some people photography. Does a D90 not shoot pictures of people?
