I know there has been a fair amount of photowalk news this week, but hey, this is PhotoWalkPro so what did you expect.  I’m going to finish of the week with just a couple of additional photowalk items.

– If you are local to the Washington DC area, you might want to consider spending Saturday night downtown so that you can join up with Shawn Duffys nighttime phototwalk by the Potomac.  Shawn is starting his photowalk at 7:00 PM tomorrow night in front of the Lincoln Memorial.  You will probably want to take a tripod for this one as well as a good jacket and maybe a flashlight.  The route will take you from DC, across the bridge and into Virginia.  Shawn has some great shots of the DC skyline from these spots so I know he will put everyone into some great shooting vantage points.  Follow this link to more info on Shawn’s blog and here is the link to the Flickr Group he created for the event.

– Hey, if you aren’t in DC, maybe you can make the photowalk in Peniche, or the East End of London, or perhaps the Port of Long Beach in CA.  So how do I know about all these event?  Simple, I checked the calendar over at Photowalk List.  This is a fairly new site that has been picking up steam in listing upcoming photowalk events.  I really like the calendar feature, which is built on Google Calendar so you can integrate it into your own calendar as well as iCal.  There are also links to articles to learn more about photowalking.  There’s even a link to post your own photowalk.  So if you are looking for an event near you, try checking out PhotowalkList.com.

– I’ll be brandishing some new gear for the Boston photowalk.  I recently acquired an R-Strap as well as a D90 so I will be very anxious to pair them up for a photowalk.  Since I will be traveling, I will probably have to pack a little lighter when it comes to my gear.  That means probably no Boda Bag, my favorite lens/gear bag for photowalking.  I am pretty excited to try out the R-Strap though because I think it will be a perfect compliment for this type of activity.

– Finally, just a reminder about the Boston Photowalk.  There is a Flickr Group that has been created for everyone to share their images.  The group is invite only so you have to request membership.  This is simply to keep it open for the photowalkers.  I have other groups that were not invite only and it seems that some folks were adding pictures to the pool, even if they didn’t attend the photowalk.  You don’t have to join before but it will make it a little easier for me if you do.  If you can’t get around to it, don’t worry, you can still join us on the photowalk.  Here’s the group address once again.

And no, you don’t have to post any pictures at all to participate, it just makes it more fun to compare images after the walk.

Have a great weekend!

Thanks for the shout out Jeff! Can’t wait to see what you think of the R-Strap. I’ve been contemplating one myself.

I just got my R-Strap two weeks ago and was able to finally use it this past weekend for a photo shoot in NYC. You’re going to love it. It’s just so much easier to carry your camera and have easy access to it when “put away”. I’ll be bringing mine to Boston for PSW as well, although I probably won’t be able to make it to the photowalk. I’ll be in a late pre con that day. Great blog, read it every day. Rick.

I got the R-Strap a few months ago – Its a pretty decent strap and it lends itself for walking around okay – I wish it had a better mechanism for quicker release from the body – you have to force that plastic safety piece pretty good to get it around the clip. Are you going to make it Saturday night?

    Thanks for the link Jeff!

A word of caution with the R-Strap if you use a tripod plate like a Manfrotto quick release instead of the supplied angle bracket. I had been trying out my R-Strap (brilliant gear BTW) with the plate because of the lower profile, letting it hang naturally, and seeing how secure the clip was. Later, with the strap removed but with the plate still on the camera, the D-ring suddenly went “PING!” and flew across the room. It seems that one side of the ring had pulled out of it’s hole while hanging from my shoulder and I hadn’t noticed. I’m very glad it didn’t happen while the camera was hanging from my shoulder! Anyway, I now have to keep a constant watch on it when I use the strap.
