I just received word of a couple of upcoming photowalks that you might be interested in.  I’m not hosting them but then again, they aren’t happening around my home town either.

♦ – The first is coming up on January 31 in Naples, FL.  The walk is being hosted by Kurt Larson and he has set up a very nice website for this and all of his photowalks.  If you are going to be in the Naples area (and I can think of much worse places to be on Jan. 31) grab your camera and join in on the fun.  Here is the link to all of the photowalk information.

♦ – Next for the photowalking calendar comes one from my buddy Andy Smith from the Visual Realia blog.  Andy held a great photowalk in Gettysburg last year and he’s already putting in the work to plan his next one, which will take place on April 18th in Harrisburg, PA.  I guess you can say that Andy really likes to plan ahead.  I don’t even know what I’m having for breakfast tomorrow and he is planning April photowalks.  You are da Man, Andy!  So now that you know the date, head over to Andy’s Visual Realia Photowalk page for all the details.

♦ – I have been getting a lot of questions about when I will be holding my next photowalk but sadly I have nothing planned as of yet.  Cold and gray isn’t very exciting but it does sum up the weather around here lately.  I am starting to put some thought into it though.  Maybe someplace quaint live Middleburg, VA, or perhaps Chinatown in DC.  I’m not quite sure yet but you’ll be the first to know.

That’s all for this week but be sure to scroll down to the next post for a little something for the funnybone.  Have a great weekend!

Something in DC! I just moved to the area to study photography at The Art Institute so this would be awesome!

    Thanks for the publicity, Jeff.

This “planning ahead” thing is a disease. Actually, if I don’t get something on the calendar months ahead, my wife will put something on it for us!

Middleburg and Chinatown both sound like winners to me. You’re right about the weather; the mid-atlantic states have had an amazingly overcast month or two.

    Hi Jeff,

I attended your last photowalk. It was a blast. Thanks.

Anyway, I would definitely vote for Middleburg. I work in Chinatown and there are just two many police and otherwise suspicious people who if they see anything other than a compact camera get a little antsy. I’ve tried doing some photography there and had at least one cop and one bystander get annoyed at me and started asking questions. The Secret Service building is there as well. Just a suggestion,

    Andy

I vote DC as well. I’ve actually been wanting to photowalk Georgetown University’s campus and some of the surrounding shops for a little while. I haven’t done any legwork to see how feasible the idea is, however.

Do not wait for the weather, it will never co-operate, I remember the first walk was in the rain!

Actually, it didn’t rain during the first photowalk, just right up to the start, then the heavens parted and we were blesses with a great day.

Not overly promoting this since I don’t know how good it would be, just thought I’d mention it. The new National Harbor might be an interesting area for a photowalk. Might be a bit too commercial but it does have the Awakening sculpture. Haven’t explored the National Harbor area too much. Was just there to see Cirque Du Soleil. The Gaylord hotels normally have amazing atriums in them although I’m not sure how keen they would be on 20 photographers walking through their courtyard.
