I braved the monster lines in security yesterday morning, along with all of the inauguration revelers, to catch my flight to Albuquerque.  I had to travel to New Mexico for a couple of days so before heading out, I fired up my Google Earth to see if I could find something cool to shoot in the brief free-time that I had.  What I found was the Sandia Peak Tramway in Albuquerque.  The tramway is the longest in the world, stretching 2.7 miles and rising to an altitude of 10,378 feet.  At the top is a great observation deck that affords views of the 11,000 square mile panoramic view that stretches out around the peak.  I traveled up at a little before 5:00 so that I could get some daylight shots and then watch the sunset over Albuquerque.  It was a little colder than I expected and kind of windy but I did manage to get a couple of nice shots.  It’s beautiful country and I would love to spend some time just driving around on a photo excursion.  Maybe someday soon.  Until then, here’s a couple from yesterday.

Dude, you really gotta tell people before you run off to NM. I would die for some real green chili = ) I am hoping to get out that way this summer, although it will be Santa Fe If I go.

  2. As Mike said, I would love to get some real green chili! I used to spend my week days in Albuquerque and weekends in Florida for work a few years ago. It really is an interesting place. My wife and daughter came out to visit me and have a mini-vacation in December of 2005 and we rode the tram up the Sandia’s as well. If you drive up from the other side of the mountains it is really pretty. Assuming of course you don’t mind all the twists and turns in the road. It isn’t for the weak stomach types!

That looks like something I would NOT want to ride in!

I go there twice a year, try to shoot the petroglyphs as well. Very Nice.

    Hi Jeff,

Yep, NM is a fantastic place to photographic. Such variety and diversity of landscapes and people. Food (esp. hot stuff) can be a challenge!). Sunrises/sunsets are some of the best.

So, when is you NM photowalk. If you stay away from the normal big cities, I’m ready.

      Sorry Jimmcd,
No photowalk this time. I was only in town for a couple of days and now I’m headed home. I really wish I did have some time for a photowalk in New Mexico though. What a fantastic place!
