♦ – I thought this was kind of a different way to have a photography contest, and it is centered around one of my favorite subject, pets.  Anamigo is sponsoring the contest that is judged by the registered readers and each daily winner gets $25.  You could potentially win up to $300.  Not bad for grabbing some cute pics of the family pooch.  Don’t think it’s money in the bank though, taking great animal pictures can be fun but also frustrating.  For more information, head on over to the Anamigo website.

♦ – Yesterday I wrote about Jason Moore’s website but I had no idea that he was going to pick that day to announce a new project for 2009.  Jason is going to take his interviews in a new direction.  Starting next Monday, Jason will be posting his new Photoshop Interview series which will feature folks from around the world of Photoshop.  The subjects will include industry insiders as well as those people that put Photoshop through its paces on a daily basis.  He is beginning the series with none other than, Adobe Photoshop Project Manager, John Nack.  He will be following up with NAPP Executive Director and all-around great guy, Larry Becker, Adobe Creative Systems Engineer Mike McHugh, African Safari leader Andy Biggs, and some guy that runs a photowalk site.  I haven’t seen the format yet so I am excited and curious to see what Jason is going to bring to the table.  I’m sure it will be extremely informative.  You can read more about it at Jason’s blog.

♦ – I found a very cool site with hundreds of free textures for all of your compositing work.  Urban Dirty offers sidewalks, cracked paint, and any other type of textured surface you could think of in a city environment.  The images are available in three download sizes… and did I mention that they are absolutely free?  How cool is that?  Go check it out by clicking here.

  1. Oh my! Three wonderful items in one post! 1) I’ll be heading over to see the pet photo contest (my favorite topic) and 2) I follow Jason as well 3) Thank you so so so much for sharing the free textures! I’m a texture lover!

That texture site is fantastic, and it’s usually hard to find good ones. Thank you thank you thank you!

  3. Excellent suggestions, Jeff!

One thing though about the Anamigo photo contest about which photographers should be aware is that those submitting photos are required to give Anamigo ownership of the photos.

From Contest Rules: “Each Submission will be deemed a Work Made For Hire under the Copyright laws of the United States, but if it cannot be so deemed, then each winner irrevocably sells, assigns and transfers to Anamigo LLC all of his/her right, title and interest in and to his/her Pictures and Blogs including but not limited to all copyright and trademark rights, in the United States and worldwide, therein, for valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which is hereby acknowledged. Each winner hereby waives in favor of Anamigo LLC, all rights of “Droit Moral” or “Moral Rights” or any similar rights or principles of law that winners may now or later have in the Pictures and Blogs.”

While I appreciate that many people do not care about their intellectual property being used in such a fashion, I prefer to retain copyright of my work and (a potential) $300 is not sufficient for me to turn over my copyright.

    LOVE the textures site! WOOT!
