One of the questions I am often asked by people that are interested in photowalking is what they should shoot.  Some folks like to concentrate on a specific type of subject while others are more general in their choice of subjects.  Here’s a small list of subjects to get you started:

Architecture

People

Signs

Flora

Other Photowalkers

Colors

Black and White – Processed afterwards

So there’s a few ideas to get you started.  The important thing to remember is to have fun and don’t be afraid to explore your creative side.

Speaking of photowalking, if you missed my live interview last night on YourMacLife, you can listen to it by clicking here.  I want to give a huge thanks to Shawn and Lesa King for having me on the show.  You can catch more from YourMacLife right here.

I see a guy w/ a 70-200… I know somewhere you said ‘less is more’, so I was planning on leaving my 70-200 home and only take my 17-55 and 70-300. Think that’d cover it? Or should I still take my 70-200?

    Chris,
Whatever you are comfortable with is what you should bring. I try not to carry too much gear and focus on using what I have but I can say that there are times that I wish I had other lenses. I think the two that you mentioned will certainly cover a very wide range and should serve you well. The big advantage of that 70-200 is the large, f/2.8 aperture which really lets you isolate a subject with the shallow depth of field.

Thanks for the great post on what to shoot Jeff! I think that I am going to carry just two lens, 24-70 f/2.8 and 70-200 f/2.8. I always seem to carry more then I need when I go out to shoot; maybe I can talk myself in just choosing one lens, but I doubt it!

Hi Jeff, Do you have a new process to create Black and White after “words”? Or did you mean “afterwards”?
