Finding Photos – Every now and then I need an image for the blog but I don’t quite have anything appropriate in my own cache of photos. Instead of paying for a shot over at iStock or one of the other micro-stock agencies, or worse yet, snatching a shot from Google Images, I turn to a different source. I’m sure by now that most of you have heard of the Creative Commons license. It is a way for those that produce published works to attach the particular freedoms that they want to their works. This can range from “All Rights Reserved” to “Free for non-commercial use”. Many times they have caveats like “Attribution” so that they receive credit for any work used by someone else. I’m not sure how I feel about using the Creative Commons license with my own work but I am happy to use the work of others. To do this I turn to the Search page by Creative Commons. Just type in a keyword and it pulls up all images tagged with that word. From there you can download the image as well as get the information as to how the image can be used. It’s a great tool and so much better than “borrowing” an image from Google Images.
A New Bundle of Joy – No, not that kind of bundle, rather a new merger of products that can prove to be a substantial joy to your wallet. Vertus, the makers of Fluid Mask, and Imagenomic, the makers of Noiseware, have announced bundled versions of their award winning products. You can now purchase the fantastic Fluid Mask (see me earlier review) with the full Imagenomic plug-in suite which includes the Noiseware, Portraiture, and RealGrain plug-ins for $383.16. That’s a savings of $95.79. You can also purchase Fluid Mask bundled with any single Imagenomic plug-in for about 20% in savings. Click here for all the info.
A Walk in History – Friend of the blog, Andy Smith from Visual Realia, had so much fun at my Georgetown photowalk that shortly afterwords he planned his own photowalk for historic Gettysburg, PA. I have never visited Gettysburg and am really looking forward to participating in the September 14th photowalk. Coming on the heals of the Kelby World Wide Photowalk, it will be a pleasure to just be a walker and leave the planning to someone else. For more information, head to Andy’s Gettysburg Photowalk page (click here).
World Wide Photowalk Reminder – I just wanted to remind those of you that have signed up for one of my two photowalks that the Flickr Groups have been set up and are ready for you to join. Group membership is only for those that have officially registered as a photowalker so if you aren’t registered, your request will be declined. To find your appropriate Flickr group, just head over to the official World Wide Photowalk page and click on your city page for the link and all of the photowalk details.
That’s all for this Friday. This weekend I am hoping to shoot some motocross and motorcycle jumping. I will post up some shots next week (if I get anything worth posting).
Have a great weekend!
