This is going to be a light post for this Friday, mainly because it’s been a long week and I’m feeling pretty lazy at 10:45 at night.  Writing the blog is something I love to do but it can be a little draining sometimes – witness the new “No Blog Wednesdays” over at Scott Kelby’s blog.  While I’m not taking the day off, I am not going to write any articles today.  Rather I am going to point you to some sites that I like and a few photographers who’s work inspires me.  So without further delay – on to some things I’ve seen -

While doing my daily RSS Reader run, I saw something on Joe McNally’s blog that caught my eye.  Joe has an image of Jen Concepcion, Rafael Concepcion’s wife.  RC is one of the Kelby Training instructors and last January when I stopped by the Kelby training offices, I saw a beautiful print of Jen hanging in RC’s office.  He told me the whole story of Joe shooting the shot which was pretty cool.  Jen is a super sweet girl and RC is just a great guy and I loved the shot from my first glance across the office to the moment it drew me near to see it in all it’s enlarged glory.  Chances are, you will too so click here to check it out.

Shawn Duffy is a very talented photographer from my neck of the woods.  Recently he has been touring around Paris and he has been posting images and details from his trip.  He has some really great shots from all around the city.  You can start with his Day 1 entry here.

Stephen Alvarez is one of those National Geographic photographers whose images are so visually impactful that they just seem to resonate in your head long after you’ve turned the page (yes, I’m a big fan).  Well Stephen has started writing a blog to tell some of the stories that go with his images.  Not the stories that appeared in NG but the tales of a photographer.  It’s great stuff that is worth bookmarking.  Check it out here.

When I first started getting into HDR photography I did what most of us do these days, I turned to Google for more information.  One of the tutorials I found was at a site called Thinsite.  It’s a great tutorial and will hopefully help you in your HDR pursuits as much as it did me.  Check it out here and when you’re done, click on the Today link to see some great photography.

So there you go, a little something to kick off your weekend browsing.  See you next week.

    Ken,
The theme I use is called Mandigo. You can download it right here http://www.onehertz.com/portfolio/wordpress/
It’s a great theme that allows lots of customization and allows the use of widgets and plug-ins. It also has a lot of different looks that you can use including different headers. You can also use your own header images that rotate with each new page load. Give it a try. I’m sure you’ll like it.

Hi Jeff. Great post… Thanks for the information. How often do you shoot HDR?

Thanks for the comments Paulo. As for how often I shoot HDR, it really depends on what I am shooting. I always try and look at a scene and determine how much dynamic range I am working with. If I am working with a tripod, I always like to shoot some over and under shots, just in case. Not every scene translates well to the HDR process and sometimes I am quite disappointed with the results. It’s just never a sure bet. I can say that it pays to have those images for the scenes where HDR really brings a scene to life. So I would say that it’s better to shoot for HDR when you have the chance and then figure out in the processing if it will work or not. Those extra shots certainly aren’t going to cost you anything but time.

    Jeff
