I build up a lot of little things that I want to blog about on a daily basis but on their own, they don’t really add up to much. So here today are just some random items that, together, make this Odds and Ends Thursday.
- After reading the always inspiring words of Joe McNally yesterday over at Photoshop Insider, I started to think back to my first exposure to the great photographers of yesterday. My first real taste of the early giants behind the lens came in my History of Photography class in college. I remember thinking how much I hated the class because it was really a history of photographers, not photography. Anyway, I do recall my inspiration with several of the photographers that we studied that semester. Among them were Man Ray, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and Edward Weston. So when I saw a excerpt of an interview with Weston’s wife over at A Photo Editor, I just had to give it a read. Her insight into his work is really worth a read.
- By the way, the full article comes from a fairly new magazine called PhotoIcon. I popped over to their webpage and it really looks like a great read. It’s full of information about photographers and their images. Lots of cool looks into other peoples art. There are also some great articles on the page but to get the full flavor, you really need to subscribe. Here’s the link.
- Speaking of inspiring articles, my hat’s off to my buddy Vincent Versace who hit one out of the park the other day with his inaugural Guest Blogger post at Photoshop Insider. He really set the bar for those guest bloggers to come. Also, please don’t forget that Vincent is donating all the profits from any of his art sales over the next few weeks for Burma Cyclone Relief. His print sales page can be found here. If you would like to find out all the details, you can check my previous post with all the details (link).
- Since we seem to be on an inspiration kick today, I wanted to let you know about two photographers I added to my Great Photography blog roll over on the right, in the sidebar. Chromasia features the photography of David Nightingale. David has a great eye and I am always struck by his work. I hear he is a pretty darn good instructor too, which explains why he was over teaching in Dubai with Joe McNally.
- The other new site belongs to landscape photographer Jay Patel. Jay has photographed some of the most majestic locations in the United States and he has the beautiful images to prove it. So if you are looking for a reason to take your camera into the wilderness, check out Jays gallery where you are sure to find a reason or two (link).
- Finally, I wanted to end with just a little bit of shameless promotion. Did you know that you can subscribe to my blogposts and have them delivered to your favorite Reader or email every day? Ok, so you probably did, but just on the off chance that you didn’t know this, be sure to click on my subscribe link where you can choose the delivery method of your choice. If nothing else, it’s free.
