Georgetown Photowalk Weekend

Ok everyone, this is the weekend for the big, ultra-spectacular, uber-terrific Georgetown Photowalk.  Well, maybe that’s just a bit overboard but I am looking forward to getting out there and walking the streets and canal paths with my fellow photographers.  So if you are planning on joining us, remember to get there a few minutes early so you have time to find a place to park and join up with the group by 10:00 AM.  If you are just finding out about this, all of the information can be found in a previous post, just click here for details.

    I’m planning on coming in from WV and it looks like I can get on the metro in Shady Grove. Go to metro central and then to a place called Foggy Bottom and then walk to the meeting place. Any idea how much time it takes to walk from Foggy Bottom to the meeting place. It looks like I’ll be going down Penn Ave to M st into G-town and to the meeting place.

    Bob,
    I’m sorry to say that I really don’t have a clue how long this will take. You can look on Google Earth or a map program and try to find out what the distance is and then figure how long it will take you to walk it. I have always driven my car to Georgetown because I thought the Metro was too far to make it usable, but that’s just me.

    Foggy B to Georgetown takes about 15-20 minutes on foot.

    Looks like there’s lots of parking, but where’s the River Street you mentioned? Can’t find it.

    Andy,
    River St. runs underneath the Whitehurst FWY. The Whitehurst is elevated and runs directly over River St. so if you are looking at a satellite map, you would never see it. If you follow my directions to com down Wisconsin from M St., you will run right into River St. By the way, the big parking lot that shows up on the satellite views from Google Earth and Google Maps are old. The big riverside parking lot is no longer there. That whole area is being turned into a park. There is parking under the Whitehurst all along River St. I hope that makes it a little clearer.

    Hey Jeff,

    Hope the Photo Walk goes well tomorrow – will look forward to the images going up next week both here and at Flickr. I came across this from a post Carolyn Wright made on her photo attorney blog today – a news story about photographers being told to stop taking pictures in none other than Union Station. The funny thing was the camera crew that was interviewing the head of the Station was approached by security during the interview and told to stop filming!

    Given your prior experience with photography security in Dubai, and the fact that this is in your neck of the woods locally, thought you may be interested in it:

    Absolutely, thanks for putting this together Jeff. I enjoyed my first photowalk and had a handful of good captures and…..a workout to boot (this is the guy with the stroller and three kids). Posing to the group now. Looking forward to the next outing.
